When the electronic music trio Major Lazer (consisting of DJ/producers Walshy Fire, Diplo and Jillionaire) reached out about a microsite for their Spotify contest, we jumped at the opportunity. Few groups are as influential on the current state of popular music as these guys – not to mention Major Lazer has some of the coolest branding in the game. We set out to create a microsite that bridged the gap between one of the year’s biggest releases, and an incredible contest package through Spotify.
Major Lazer's contest site takes advantage of some cool parallax features to help lead visitors through the entry steps. Soundcloud and Spotify integration incorporates advanced features from both platforms directly into the site, resulting in a successful promotion of Major Lazer’s new single and the Diplo and Friends Spotify playlist. Because of the contest’s excellent shareability, the Diplo and Friends Spotify playlist saw a growth of nearly 10,000 new followers during the life of the promotion. Additionally, the custom WordPress CMS makes it easy to manage entries, edit copy, and update the site.
With more than 50 percent of traffic on Major Lazer's full site coming from mobile, this microsite needed to look great on every device. It’s no secret the mobile audience is only growing, and considering Major Lazer’s relatively young target demographic, a site which delivered just as much on mobile as on desktop was a must.
